Saturday, we grouted the tiles and installed the window. We also got the fixtures in place. Sunday, we installed the shower door. It's really coming along. Now, we just need to finish the wall above the tile. We've smoothed it out with joint compound. It still needs to be textured and painted.<br />
<br />

We had to cut each piece to size (thankfully, only four). I did that with the diamond blade (cement is tough stuff and wouldn't cut with a normal blade). Dad screwed it into place. He especially loves impact drivers. When he did the Shingle Springs house when I was an infant, putting backerboard up took forever because all the holes had to be predrilled through the board. A screw never would have gotten through. Despite the relative quickness of the impact driver, it was still lunch time when we got the backerboard completely up. Having to cut holes for plumbing slowed things down a bit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgarls7HmuH241db097fXqps1QPoV_ShBLsnWdJs6P5HjhgE5ql9T2U0edQAytFYtmGl32iC3nMSzkqt81kWzOh3rw89hMmAKjgbSTPpzwzUjjYZ1iqziyDVbtykto1vSfF748DIUKRvqk/s1600/DSCN4633.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgarls7HmuH241db097fXqps1QPoV_ShBLsnWdJs6P5HjhgE5ql9T2U0edQAytFYtmGl32iC3nMSzkqt81kWzOh3rw89hMmAKjgbSTPpzwzUjjYZ1iqziyDVbtykto1vSfF748DIUKRvqk/s320/DSCN4633.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
After lunch, we applied the tile to one side of the shower. Dad put up the thinset, I put up the tile, Dad cut the ones that needed cutting. By this point in time, it was obvious we needed more thinset and tile spacers before we could finish the job. So, we ended the day with a purchase.<br />

Monday arrived, as did much tiling work to do. The morning went slowly because the new spacers we purchased were awful. They didn't stay in place, so we had to constantly battle them, which slowed us down. After lunch, Mom bought us some better ones and we moved along much more quickly. Here I am cleaning up the second wall. After the thinset has dried a bit, we remove the spacers and scrape out the space between the tiles so there's plenty of room for the grout. We also wipe all the thinset off the tiles. It's almost impossible to remove if it dries all the way, so it's important to do it when we did.<br />
<br />

We got the third wall done in the evening. Cleaning up the bathroom took a bit of time - there was dust and thinset everywhere! <br />

The missing tile is where the soap dish will go. <br />
<br />
Shower's still not usable. We need to do the trim and grout. Then the plumbing. Then it will be usuable, but will still need a window, the window above the tile textured and painted, and a shower door. Two more weekends until the open house. We can do it!Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-72622282084764280512011-09-04T08:59:00.001-07:002011-09-04T08:59:41.920-07:00Start of the Shower<br />
The long weekend is being used to redo my shower. Friday, while I was at drawing class, Dad removed the old masonite 'tile' and the plumbing fixtures that were outside the wall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWL71yftu477vLUfXkCg1CtVIeMgM-k7dC5NB3ZBEJLIVJvOraL2utTkvK9H7jBehW63kt_OsWBtP2eaWjSRGnqUOJEA25eszo08gGGSHBad_FCjqPCR2pYIssacP3jieQvb6ipbew_kMA/s1600/DSCN4627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWL71yftu477vLUfXkCg1CtVIeMgM-k7dC5NB3ZBEJLIVJvOraL2utTkvK9H7jBehW63kt_OsWBtP2eaWjSRGnqUOJEA25eszo08gGGSHBad_FCjqPCR2pYIssacP3jieQvb6ipbew_kMA/s320/DSCN4627.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixHFEigtg48fpCvmLNhcuuSoGXlAC0RYyoPKttv9r3rOkqjOcRqqwfzpIMpluX2pLugNPNLh6e6I5m1gUcr7n3IFZGDBfygVEpuvFfGHFnPAWgb0JzzoAUGTPOvxkUZn5O-TMYKBB563R1/s1600/DSCN4628.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixHFEigtg48fpCvmLNhcuuSoGXlAC0RYyoPKttv9r3rOkqjOcRqqwfzpIMpluX2pLugNPNLh6e6I5m1gUcr7n3IFZGDBfygVEpuvFfGHFnPAWgb0JzzoAUGTPOvxkUZn5O-TMYKBB563R1/s320/DSCN4628.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
That afternoon, we bought the new fixture and all the plumbing pieces we would need to make it work.<br />
<br />
Saturday, Mom cut out the window hole in the sheetrock. (A window had been in the bathroom at some point in the past and had been removed, but only sort of. Sheetrock covered the hole on the inside and some outside cover had been created, but the basics of the hole were still there.) I framed the new window since it is to be 24 x 12 instead of 24 x 24. (I know it looks funny, but the 'garden' room is behind the bathroom, so the window 'sort of' goes outside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg60mmLfNpSWohaFsdsyN_VfH0fG31DYm7jLZDsxL-zy5ldNGb9Hq4ZMdfbYYKKyRpYxAF8QdQVBEtYboC-KlQgzXe3ODCs3569A2_7H8sANDd6ohn9sLlzmLOlWZGWI-ThEYfYR_UrTUb0/s1600/DSCN4629.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg60mmLfNpSWohaFsdsyN_VfH0fG31DYm7jLZDsxL-zy5ldNGb9Hq4ZMdfbYYKKyRpYxAF8QdQVBEtYboC-KlQgzXe3ODCs3569A2_7H8sANDd6ohn9sLlzmLOlWZGWI-ThEYfYR_UrTUb0/s320/DSCN4629.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
I then patched the sheetrock and hung cardboard on the outside of the hole because the window that will go there has not arrived yet. During this time, Dad was doing the new plumbing. We also found out that my smoke detectors work quite well - soldering makes a bit of smoke. Luckily, my bathroom fan also works well, so we didn't have the ringing the entire time we soldered. We really should have turned it on at the beginning. Hindsight is 20/20.<br />
<br />
Once all the new connections had been made, Dad wanted to pressure test them. Makes sense because I sure as heck wouldn't want to find out they leak after we've put the wall back and the tile up. First one checking the copper soldered connections went fine, even the one Dad was worried about. Then we added the CPVC pipe running up to the shower head and tested it. All of a sudden, water was flying everywhere and I was yelling at Dad to turn it off. He hadn't screwed one of the end caps on all the way! We fixed that and then discovered that the new connection was, indeed, leaking. A couple more turns of the pipe solved that problem.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh37Ccx4o-_18ybntH45GBCK7AXQEdRMipDjqrV2tacciQjOKmJL6BP79gP4VRhgwaiEP6otpo4BW35dKIalhWjtOAuGbj0hI2qvRmVDrO0Ph9SYRHCl4v-MdAQzfyMPEt83yinY6BwlfXe/s1600/DSCN4630.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh37Ccx4o-_18ybntH45GBCK7AXQEdRMipDjqrV2tacciQjOKmJL6BP79gP4VRhgwaiEP6otpo4BW35dKIalhWjtOAuGbj0hI2qvRmVDrO0Ph9SYRHCl4v-MdAQzfyMPEt83yinY6BwlfXe/s320/DSCN4630.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then we patched the giant hole with sheetrock. Enough work for the day. Backerboard and tile next time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAQv-b1dVPo2b6Cc5ZD7wOxpJDJDKW7KlQx55eAsmqa_cyKOrQXbV-UP-4Kux4nmrt0dl0ojfxR_gb7f1thxDugjfS9ewchbdzBsePKYdjXFMQPMuFmOgJxfG5GpzJhGM2Ft5gR23y6HMU/s1600/DSCN4631.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAQv-b1dVPo2b6Cc5ZD7wOxpJDJDKW7KlQx55eAsmqa_cyKOrQXbV-UP-4Kux4nmrt0dl0ojfxR_gb7f1thxDugjfS9ewchbdzBsePKYdjXFMQPMuFmOgJxfG5GpzJhGM2Ft5gR23y6HMU/s320/DSCN4631.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
During this, Mom was outside doing physical labor. I previously had cut down a lot of brush - more than would fit in one can of yard waste. Mom cut a bunch and filled another bin for me. After lunch, she then moved a bunch of dirt around - taking it from beside the house (where we don't want it) and filling various random holes in the backyard. It will be nice to have a relatively level backyard. I'm anticipating her feeling sore today and taking it relatively easy. We'll see.<br />

In the last 2 weekends, we just worked three days. We got the toekicks installed in the kitchen, as well as the ceiling trim around the cabinets. Mom painted part of the super hot wall, but has now decided that it really can wait for cooler weather. Dad removed the old posts from the front porch and replaced them with more substantial ones that look much nicer. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrN8QFQ1QgkpS6wNCxccY-o7kym764BNOPiXHn-m0zmDIU9i4gs9gXzjFxCX1ca0uDdV6WPRxuty2dHGvn54Kjg5Q9zfU2cqRPbnfeVSH3B1ZEwLbjARNTzcCep3Ov4foD2WqtMh_27zc/s1600/DSCN4624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrN8QFQ1QgkpS6wNCxccY-o7kym764BNOPiXHn-m0zmDIU9i4gs9gXzjFxCX1ca0uDdV6WPRxuty2dHGvn54Kjg5Q9zfU2cqRPbnfeVSH3B1ZEwLbjARNTzcCep3Ov4foD2WqtMh_27zc/s320/DSCN4624.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Next weekend, the last major project: redoing the shower.<br />
<br />
Things still left to do: exterior paint (the super hot wall and the trim)<br />
shower<br />
closet doors<br />
bathroom ceiling trimSilkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-58885190835344246252011-08-15T07:57:00.000-07:002011-08-15T07:58:00.350-07:00Things That Begin With GGrout and Garage!<br />
<br />
That's what Dad and I worked on while Mom was out of town.<br />
<br />
Friday morning we grouted the kitchen tile. First, we applied the grout with our trowels. After it hardened for a bit, we wiped the excess off. Over and over and over and over and over again. Eventually, it was wonderfully shiny again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqAfs7r9Kfu8bm75nA1kkNc2pFpXBNQ-RB9zA-VwFzB4smtpO83H1dcBt-MRRX9o3ecbgyzf02aMCvCcjgUDnowUi_x8Up3Ckyne2EX8RF6P9uL8-ZDjnd5XZs0o2shChnXxpChVJe2_o/s1600/DSCN4581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqAfs7r9Kfu8bm75nA1kkNc2pFpXBNQ-RB9zA-VwFzB4smtpO83H1dcBt-MRRX9o3ecbgyzf02aMCvCcjgUDnowUi_x8Up3Ckyne2EX8RF6P9uL8-ZDjnd5XZs0o2shChnXxpChVJe2_o/s320/DSCN4581.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I totally love it!<br />
<br />
That afternoon we bought some wood for trim in the kitchen.<br />
<br />
Saturday was a half-day of work, but we accomplished a lot. I had saved the cabinets from the kitchen when I took them out. We spent the morning installing them in the garage. There wasn't enough space for the full L of the lower cabinets, so we didn't install the smaller part, which was kind of broken from being removed anyway. We were able to install both the upper cabinets, but not their doors. They were stupidly designed so that the door doesn't go the full length of all the cabinets and cuts off about a foot of the top shelf. We decided no doors would be more functional. On top of the base cabinet, we used an old door from the removed garage conversion as a counter top. It fit perfectly so we didn't have to cut it in anyway!<br />
<br />
Sunday, we installed pegboard in the garage corner and I moved in a bunch of stuff. The garage is now totally clean and I can park a car in there!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtnpP_PjMFu-dSdFZ7JvzSF2UshKeBe0qDgv820zQiQ9k5OGNzU4JQnm-tlXCg_W8cvSkAbTCI3y1kQN1hq_j1Stb6Vcz9rJiskNmj2xZOG7b2jZBppk31RtqOUV3dHOz4Q8MRMBUzWJo/s1600/DSCN4583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtnpP_PjMFu-dSdFZ7JvzSF2UshKeBe0qDgv820zQiQ9k5OGNzU4JQnm-tlXCg_W8cvSkAbTCI3y1kQN1hq_j1Stb6Vcz9rJiskNmj2xZOG7b2jZBppk31RtqOUV3dHOz4Q8MRMBUzWJo/s320/DSCN4583.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
I also converted the nearest outlet from a 220 one to a 110 one so that will be quite useful. Dad fixed a kitchen outlet that was sticking out from the tile too far. He then caulked the connection of the kitchen tile to the counter. Apparently that was a pain since the counter was wood. The caulk doesn't wipe up nearly as well as on tubs and tiles. I also got the kitchen trim pieces rubbed with Minwax so they'll be ready to go up next weekend.<br />
<br />
We're so close to being done. It's awesome. I'll keep you posted about an open house coming in the future.Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-39403547093779285852011-08-09T08:30:00.000-07:002011-08-09T08:30:41.588-07:00Other Accomplishments From the WeekendDad and I spent the weekend tiling, but Mom was busy, too. She caulked around the frame of the new door and painted it. She cut and painted shelves for the master bedroom closet. That took a while because the wood had previously been painted blue and yellow - she needed many coats. She was going to rehang the linen closet doors when she realized that they had gotten messed up when drying from their first paint job. So, she scraped the bumps off and repainted - needing many coats. They're now ready (again) to be rehung. She also touched up the exterior paint around the electric panel. The panel has been replaced since painting and was moved slightly, so original color was visible. She also painted the wire that was run through so it wouldn't be so noticeable. While none of the tasks Mom accomplished were exciting, they were all necessary. Yay!Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-16870371541728114932011-08-08T08:41:00.000-07:002011-08-08T08:41:55.273-07:00Tile Work!The day finally arrived for us to do the tile back splash in the kitchen. I've been waiting for this for a long time. I designed it months and months ago and finally get to see it come together.<br />
<br />
First, everything had to be carefully planned to know how much to cut off the first tile so that the ending ones wouldn't look stupid. Dad cut those first tiles with his tile saw. We also got the counters covered with plastic to keep them nice.<br />
<br />

When we were ready to begin, Dad mixed up the thinset (thin concrete-like stuff used to attach the tile to the wall) and I dipped the tiles (since they're ceramic, the suck a lot of moisture out of the thinset if they're not wet first). Dad then applied the thinset to the wall (we chose to not use backer board for this project since strength wasn't a concern).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPgxMPyV5pLWYglbhYsgS5iT0V05rxcDeNJGCdxhZlKSWsI1KKSpZ0SRvJpCCg0aWm3ic99V-rq2pP8K8NSAnG-9PCLuF2lV9A0-WHvBqAFQvBbtYlC5TOwDHzFZKhblmpcZN1ssCsKLU/s1600/DSCN4559.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPgxMPyV5pLWYglbhYsgS5iT0V05rxcDeNJGCdxhZlKSWsI1KKSpZ0SRvJpCCg0aWm3ic99V-rq2pP8K8NSAnG-9PCLuF2lV9A0-WHvBqAFQvBbtYlC5TOwDHzFZKhblmpcZN1ssCsKLU/s320/DSCN4559.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
We then pressed the tiles into place using 1/8 inch spacers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ4L1QMhn923EqX3qErufeb25HRLZSV8EOH8tUR0rHXcDKRGgtsL1chi7L6IvKQI5cxDiAYlrRP5r0Vas4aLZ83-9S23j-2ochShowRoI-yOI732wCson5MFBULkWtiUA2uXjkN02xiBg/s1600/DSCN4561.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ4L1QMhn923EqX3qErufeb25HRLZSV8EOH8tUR0rHXcDKRGgtsL1chi7L6IvKQI5cxDiAYlrRP5r0Vas4aLZ83-9S23j-2ochShowRoI-yOI732wCson5MFBULkWtiUA2uXjkN02xiBg/s320/DSCN4561.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Along the top of the tile over the sink (no cabinet overhead) I applied some trim pieces. First, the thinset had to be back-buttered onto the piece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSr0M36b5s-5xDV43lB_fb6a10H8-beZjOd8kbajh6GNh30kp2Rx7Azep44AmEhstCl2sUyf2rQWRhkjFP9mp6qwzaWQaqRkPhyzAEjz1IQsGtFT1sltekiTIgRKPX2enoPlCbjzhqm4g/s1600/DSCN4566.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSr0M36b5s-5xDV43lB_fb6a10H8-beZjOd8kbajh6GNh30kp2Rx7Azep44AmEhstCl2sUyf2rQWRhkjFP9mp6qwzaWQaqRkPhyzAEjz1IQsGtFT1sltekiTIgRKPX2enoPlCbjzhqm4g/s320/DSCN4566.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

We kept applying tiles until we were at the corner. Then, I cut the pieces to fit there.<br />
<br />

We removed the spacers and wiped off the excess thinset. Not enough time for grout this weekend, so we know what we'll be doing next time.<br />

<br />
On the outside, Mom finished painting the cracks and spaces the roller couldn't reach on the front of the house.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpAgPPrHXt9mHKm-56PbNSmxjeXee8oDVm-PvWl5ruoPiMOKBVXrm2Fu_pQjXfloWwu-n9o6X1-AMWhyphenhyphenS_BU3Bxyfj2AfWopnxiDo52dP-81smWg_754VbKIemrLbe8j0Y6fhquffhKfw/s1600/DSCN4454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpAgPPrHXt9mHKm-56PbNSmxjeXee8oDVm-PvWl5ruoPiMOKBVXrm2Fu_pQjXfloWwu-n9o6X1-AMWhyphenhyphenS_BU3Bxyfj2AfWopnxiDo52dP-81smWg_754VbKIemrLbe8j0Y6fhquffhKfw/s320/DSCN4454.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
We have one exterior wall left to fill the cracks on and paint. Plus, all the trim work.<br />
<br />
Dad moved dirt away from one side of the house to keep it protected from the elements.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTreHxAqVQCMcehUXMJD5DI1DXA45A2KOk4RGjV2BV8RM9CBRgMA_ImYFBZUksyqD7slcfGUDNMaQ3GVHm77QeRFe2e2YKt5NT_BwM78HhRhEpb4NGLSX4yCJFQCEbBAYdH9rWhXmlHoE/s1600/DSCN4461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTreHxAqVQCMcehUXMJD5DI1DXA45A2KOk4RGjV2BV8RM9CBRgMA_ImYFBZUksyqD7slcfGUDNMaQ3GVHm77QeRFe2e2YKt5NT_BwM78HhRhEpb4NGLSX4yCJFQCEbBAYdH9rWhXmlHoE/s320/DSCN4461.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
We got a lot done inside. We finished the texture around the door and got the texture around the window ready to paint.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYFmvmQJlfFD-FAuaUd7Aa1RgTcu-ooOYv6jXOkLcjLx76Myw2NXZ6InuDgCDKaqUxGB0dYzOttNkc6SHlhQ5l-RDnUBTo9T-LiFpA8j-xH9Nma2RDyo96PuHC2HrCPl9_nPtCprCrtX0/s1600/DSCN4444.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYFmvmQJlfFD-FAuaUd7Aa1RgTcu-ooOYv6jXOkLcjLx76Myw2NXZ6InuDgCDKaqUxGB0dYzOttNkc6SHlhQ5l-RDnUBTo9T-LiFpA8j-xH9Nma2RDyo96PuHC2HrCPl9_nPtCprCrtX0/s320/DSCN4444.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

And painted.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC0U2FKPhw9wVXpd5oKjK8EeO0mRmm3tbp2-CCrpPMg6bUrxkHZSmr3e_TDRrHHe0vgqjxYVWsDlRBdWwQtu1j1CKfPYnKmPds5oLbWnxTtf1AdzYY3kGiyse1sRu8OW0B7Gc8GjnH8P8/s1600/DSCN4467.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC0U2FKPhw9wVXpd5oKjK8EeO0mRmm3tbp2-CCrpPMg6bUrxkHZSmr3e_TDRrHHe0vgqjxYVWsDlRBdWwQtu1j1CKfPYnKmPds5oLbWnxTtf1AdzYY3kGiyse1sRu8OW0B7Gc8GjnH8P8/s320/DSCN4467.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
We also got the blinds up. Now, all the windows are properly covered.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbwaQ9wX7GgjqyF9zFUWwxmOD4yHWDQw5OUaNaCT37ei8EnTvnYd36rKkrw8K8YgQT8QwlZnSCJLf_Jp-VM-9CodxhoMRfzcdHvl9G3ShaYXHNejXge2_-ob0NcPj7zVSbIdpB5HDmk9I/s1600/DSCN4462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbwaQ9wX7GgjqyF9zFUWwxmOD4yHWDQw5OUaNaCT37ei8EnTvnYd36rKkrw8K8YgQT8QwlZnSCJLf_Jp-VM-9CodxhoMRfzcdHvl9G3ShaYXHNejXge2_-ob0NcPj7zVSbIdpB5HDmk9I/s320/DSCN4462.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

We also finished the ceiling and floor moulding now that the last work on the walls was finished.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj83_2tBlyyxSDDjIGweqe40umgrW2ZULZd2hDzhTYSBiqF1hHdpawi5Z4BTkk_RtTe-aPQMbTV7Op9WLHz26CDv4MjSZdYd60NygKXyru_lUDYuTIjzBoWN_Dp2Z36MKhpwtM12UJxgfY/s1600/DSCN4466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj83_2tBlyyxSDDjIGweqe40umgrW2ZULZd2hDzhTYSBiqF1hHdpawi5Z4BTkk_RtTe-aPQMbTV7Op9WLHz26CDv4MjSZdYd60NygKXyru_lUDYuTIjzBoWN_Dp2Z36MKhpwtM12UJxgfY/s320/DSCN4466.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Another major task was Mom and I removing the front ramp thing. This is what it looked like beforehand. Quite ugly.<br />

We put in a couple hours of destruction and black widow killing.<br />

The end result. Looking much better. Still has some painting and column work to do, but it's definitely an improvement. Although, Dad keeps forgetting it's no longer there and tripping as he comes out the door.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSK18R8AIV2Mo12NmPP-4ioGK9iSu2vb3wdR8gvySuVrSJOy4SF9bcPZrAtpakn9TCdSusLjp2ah8e8j7snxjcOZKHmGsQSP_wSOClaXY0Fr-MHF74FSe980lYuEnldgPecAE00drqQlU/s1600/DSCN4451.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSK18R8AIV2Mo12NmPP-4ioGK9iSu2vb3wdR8gvySuVrSJOy4SF9bcPZrAtpakn9TCdSusLjp2ah8e8j7snxjcOZKHmGsQSP_wSOClaXY0Fr-MHF74FSe980lYuEnldgPecAE00drqQlU/s320/DSCN4451.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Dad also put in some GFI outlets. Things are moving right along. At this point, the inside is virtually finished with the spring/summer plan. We still need to do the kitchen tile and trim and rehang the linen closet doors. On the outside, we need to finish the exterior paint and trim and get the electric panel replaced (in process of getting scheduled). When those things happen, we'll be finished with this phase of improvement!<br />
<br />
Things on the longer term to do list: redo bathroom shower, reroof, tear down random garden room. So amazing!!Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-81574781774901325082011-07-08T06:55:00.000-07:002011-07-08T06:55:12.644-07:00What Mom & Dad Have Been Doing This Week, Part 2<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Thursday:</span><br />

<br />
Saturday morning, we were all doing a variety of activities. I was touch up painting in the bedrooms over the spots that got damaged from carpet installation. Dad stuccoed around the patio door. Mom sealed cracks in the stucco with elastomeric caulk so, hopefully, they won't continue after I paint. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBKwuzsvvr_-L6bT8DQcsQPA5W4KouOh9cfT6-DIi25XjIQTqLiEyYIWFBMYHGry00VUoQMN4rsTDZYamYJKB_jjLsqHkWwE1qdWK0qQnbfGrmTqLJyKwKz_q_ivVin20bKwrhtEa2p3Y/s1600/DSCN4264.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBKwuzsvvr_-L6bT8DQcsQPA5W4KouOh9cfT6-DIi25XjIQTqLiEyYIWFBMYHGry00VUoQMN4rsTDZYamYJKB_jjLsqHkWwE1qdWK0qQnbfGrmTqLJyKwKz_q_ivVin20bKwrhtEa2p3Y/s320/DSCN4264.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
After lunch, we took a truck full of junk to the metal recycling place. This place is great if you have old appliances - they'll just take them from you. Yay! Randomly, they paid us $14 for an old stainless steel sink. We totally weren't expecting that. Alas, even though they would take the aluminum window frames, they wouldn't take the one that still had windows. We still had to figure out what to do with them.<br />
<br />
On the way home, we decided to stop at a specialty paint store to get some questions answered. The guy was very knowledgeable and we got information. Also, he noticed our old windows in the back of the truck. He commented that he was building a greenhouse. We said he could have them if he wanted. Score for both of us! We thought we were going to have to take them to the dump. This was so much better.<br />
<br />
That evening, we installed the baseboards around the floor of the bedrooms. The uneven gaps are now hidden.<br />

Sunday, the work continued. Dad put the top coat of stucco on the door. As I watered it Saturday night (something you do with stucco to, hopefully, prevent cracks while drying), I realized I need a light over it. Just created another task.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwqw6Xl6IsEfv2-xvxJZ66bKxbRvOVkR9537zuoKdiu4qiCnIcBV8pdTyRBqjhqeXuPGFA0k2fuK45y_eUhIidnAFhT61uDCQAXdrGDNhMmcnTscUerZh7RYCFHwtsVWXd51cO4aynCHw/s1600/DSCN4263.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwqw6Xl6IsEfv2-xvxJZ66bKxbRvOVkR9537zuoKdiu4qiCnIcBV8pdTyRBqjhqeXuPGFA0k2fuK45y_eUhIidnAFhT61uDCQAXdrGDNhMmcnTscUerZh7RYCFHwtsVWXd51cO4aynCHw/s320/DSCN4263.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Mom and I filled more cracks with caulk. After lunch, we bought electrical supplies and exterior paint. We're moving right along with this house! The day ended with Mom and I filling even more cracks. Dad painted primer (actually, cheap 'Oops' paint) over the new stucco on windows that had already been sealed by Mom and I.<br />
<br />
Monday dawned and Mom and I continued our battle against the cracks. We discovered the sun definitely has an impact on their creation. Less sun = fewer cracks. Dad spent a bit of time moving things out from the enclosed patio room. It's been a major work and storage area, but the walls there need to be painted as well.<br />
<br />
When it got too hot for Mom and I to work our front on cracks, the three of us came inside and installed the ceiling trim in the guest room. Now, the only place left needing trim is the living room, since we're still working on closing up the wall from installing the door.<br />
<br />
After lunch, we spent some time moving furniture from the garage into the house. Many things had been there while rooms were under construction. Now that all the bedrooms are available, I can get more moved in. Yay!<br />
<br />
Dad spent the evening priming more new stucco areas. Mom kept working on cracks. I worked on the wiring for the new light over the patio door. This involved installing a switch and running some new wire to connect the light to the switch and the switch to the circuit. I ran out of time for the light itself to be installed, so that will be a project for another day.<br />

More things will be happening this week, as Mom and Dad decided to work here the rest of the week, while I go off to my paid job. =)Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-9495650415297530662011-07-02T09:24:00.001-07:002011-07-02T09:24:26.076-07:00Carpet!Floorman's minions arrived this morning to install the carpet. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but some of the wall doesn't come down far enough to the carpet and you can see a gap. I was hoping I wouldn't need baseboards, but I do. That's the next step now.<br />
<br />
While they were doing that, Dad and I put up the top coat of stucco on the living and dining room windows. First, bonding agent is painted on. Then the stucco is applied and smoothed out. After that, with a sponge, it gets feathered to help blend with the existing. Finally, a broom is swept across it to give it a texture that should match the original.<br />

Mom filled some exterior wall crack with elastomaric caulk. That should expand and contract with the weather and hide the crack, keeping it sealed. Dad put the wire around the door so that it can be stuccoed this weekend. I measured the perimeter of the three rooms needing baseboard so that could be purchased. All in all, a good day.Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-11359163698820810152011-06-28T07:26:00.000-07:002011-06-28T07:26:42.096-07:00Making Way For a DoorWhen Mom and Dad showed up Friday, we decided that the new patio door would be the project for the weekend. Mom started us off by opening up the wall so we would know exactly what we were dealing with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia40mPvzshjeoYYb5CHsiZAIbm0X0Rw5aP_HKQJ31zcAmTQnt1foWkdXPHNbNmqWLueL8yP9TPl_KUxnxhRC0GyBrRcycdljOZNBrRhk1SYlk5xN1GujzozN04zqtWqCMsw4WjAKsBwjk/s1600/DSCN4216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia40mPvzshjeoYYb5CHsiZAIbm0X0Rw5aP_HKQJ31zcAmTQnt1foWkdXPHNbNmqWLueL8yP9TPl_KUxnxhRC0GyBrRcycdljOZNBrRhk1SYlk5xN1GujzozN04zqtWqCMsw4WjAKsBwjk/s320/DSCN4216.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

This is what we found. We already knew about the electrical wire. We would have to reroute it over the doorway and possibly move the box a bit further down. What we didn't bargain for is hiding down there next to the bottom of the middle stud - an anchor bolt. That's right where the door was going to go. We couldn't just remove it because I like the idea of my house staying attached to the foundation. We would have to figure out a way to replace it, but concrete is not the most friendly of materials to work with.<br />
<br />
That afternoon, Dad drilled the holes through the studs and header for the wire rerouting. Drilling through the header is slow work. I got doorknobs attached to most of the interior doors. <br />
<br />
Saturday dawned and we worked on a solution to our anchor bolt problem. We thought about renting a ram set gun the drive nails through the sillplate and into the concrete. Turned out to be a bit too expensive to rent. We ended up going to the local hardware store and discussing the problem with a helpful clerk there. He hooked us up with these bolts pretty much made for that purpose. You drill a hold in the concrete, drop in the bolt, and then hammer the top. When you hammer, it spreads out these clawlike things at the bottom to grip in the concrete.<br />
<br />
That afternoon, Dad spent most of his time drilling two holes in the concrete - one on either side of the new door.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5DgVOTU4bwB63whGTt9oPUVKnkc_TSZTlwD76H4jjTT69MECz_TdXYEbS2YJA1gLKyhddbzM0JolKsA-Bv0xREaT_gSbnVe1rffzkGNE792VwFWqpeVjSHNak_-4pajWtgKbVQdH3HPA/s1600/DSCN4219.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5DgVOTU4bwB63whGTt9oPUVKnkc_TSZTlwD76H4jjTT69MECz_TdXYEbS2YJA1gLKyhddbzM0JolKsA-Bv0xREaT_gSbnVe1rffzkGNE792VwFWqpeVjSHNak_-4pajWtgKbVQdH3HPA/s320/DSCN4219.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
He's great. I know he wore himself out doing so. I love you!<br />
<br />
I painted the door frame of the guest room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKa3UDohdPnu5kNMY6TmtXQI2nNgRVObxk8hCSEyQ-hGGUJawRaEPLAiRu_oiYefTDJeLnCJ0SgVzpVYW9g7dP1OOt_Eeol_7jqLXMFNeW7y6ZsoC1yLZug291v41LS6wCYnKTAglgVDg/s1600/DSCN4221.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKa3UDohdPnu5kNMY6TmtXQI2nNgRVObxk8hCSEyQ-hGGUJawRaEPLAiRu_oiYefTDJeLnCJ0SgVzpVYW9g7dP1OOt_Eeol_7jqLXMFNeW7y6ZsoC1yLZug291v41LS6wCYnKTAglgVDg/s320/DSCN4221.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Mom did some touch up painting in various places and filled holes in moulding and doors with joint compound. Eventually, the concrete decided that Dad could have his holes. He then pounded the bolts into place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Wa-surf2kMqpbOlRnP1HPVEhu6-yMCMinDXf84cH36cWnKRHwYaf05Rxs2H1OyXh0xfWr4KttNoJcR684CDSO5WMv7jAJTTU9FH9T0OCSnq3zfo4vPqUGCa5-P-y2uFcojc42pIwS8M/s1600/DSCN4223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Wa-surf2kMqpbOlRnP1HPVEhu6-yMCMinDXf84cH36cWnKRHwYaf05Rxs2H1OyXh0xfWr4KttNoJcR684CDSO5WMv7jAJTTU9FH9T0OCSnq3zfo4vPqUGCa5-P-y2uFcojc42pIwS8M/s320/DSCN4223.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
After that, Dad and I worked on rerouting the wiring over the doorway. Mom was working on her own electrical project in the kitchen. Since we'll be putting tile on the walls, the two electric boxes there need to extend out a bit so they won't be recessed behind the tiles. So was only relatively successful in that venture. The boxed were not being very friendly with her. Dad and I had more success with our rerouting, as you can see (if you look carefully).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-vVKjkF5yQGbB1gG_dD_wCi6FDuYH5tG_qR4CjazToSPxuIYgF7QhP1V6jegJlPePzfQx8k__xCyf30QHdXRYdihIaK6wwelhNj9BHwcgr5t3tWB_q1IzvMPuqaKBy2a8POVJAediyeg/s1600/DSCN4224.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-vVKjkF5yQGbB1gG_dD_wCi6FDuYH5tG_qR4CjazToSPxuIYgF7QhP1V6jegJlPePzfQx8k__xCyf30QHdXRYdihIaK6wwelhNj9BHwcgr5t3tWB_q1IzvMPuqaKBy2a8POVJAediyeg/s320/DSCN4224.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We were finally ready to take out the window and replace it with the door on Sunday. Dad was hoping we would have gotten it done on Saturday, but that anchor bolt really messed things up. First thing, Dad and I removed the window from the wall. After that, Dad cut the stucco from the window opening to the ground.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Two more studs had to be added to the right so the frame of the door would be well supported. Dad added those as well. While he was doing those jobs that didn't need any help, I put up the ceiling trim in the master bedroom. Mom was generally spending the day cleaning and fixing outlets and switches. Finally, we laid out the door and were ready to put it in place.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I stayed on the inside and directed where to move the door while Mom and Dad lifted it up. Getting a door just right is a pain. After it was up, we had to make sure it was in a good location front to back so that the frame would line up with the sheetrock, which wasn't there yet. Once that was good, we had to make sure it was plumb in every direction. All of this took a lot of wiggling and back and forth. Once one side was good, fixing the other often meant readjusting the first. It took a bit of time, but we eventually got it. I was then able to add the doorknob and lock.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkd2-PTjWeoYhvz1xVTSy0vrdfBQUUzPT9SDIXf5eb8BiHBFf-AXKdFTbOgsrZjWuRltJZFjADPZvTCLy7CJss00eqco7SSvQaneLF0LHTPMcNWbK8G8d_TewL3Co6r05VoggpVfeQgAk/s1600/DSCN4233.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkd2-PTjWeoYhvz1xVTSy0vrdfBQUUzPT9SDIXf5eb8BiHBFf-AXKdFTbOgsrZjWuRltJZFjADPZvTCLy7CJss00eqco7SSvQaneLF0LHTPMcNWbK8G8d_TewL3Co6r05VoggpVfeQgAk/s320/DSCN4233.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">While I did that, Dad filled in the hole to the right of the door with a board. The original window was wider than the door. Then, I had to fill in the screw holes on the back of the door with little plastic plugs. Dad cut off the shims. Finally, the door was done. Now we just need to add the insulation, sheetrock, texture, and paint.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I still managed to get some things done, but not nearly as much as when there's three of us.<br />
<br />
Friday: pulled quite a bit of weeds from the front yard. Soon it'll just be maintenance pulling. I also painted the backs of the doors for the two bedrooms, study, and bathroom. I also painted the door frame for the study.<br />
<br />
Saturday: no actual work. I went thrifting, hoping to find the perfect chair for the reading corner I'm going to create in the study. No luck, but I came close. Found a great one, but it was only being sold as a set for to much money.<br />
<br />
Sunday: went to Meeting. Yay! In the afternoon, I painted the entire hall closet door and the door frame for the master bedroom. Also, pulled more weeds out front.<br />
<br />
So, I still got things accomplished, but a heck of a lot more gets done when Mom & Dad are here, too.Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-25683370177066919282011-06-12T17:09:00.000-07:002011-06-12T17:09:47.219-07:00Only Two Days of Work This Weekend<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">We worked only Friday & Saturday this weekend. Sunday we celebrated Father's Day early as Mom and Dad will be out of town next weekend.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Floorman came out Friday morning and measured the three rooms for carpet. It should be getting installed about the 24th - it's got to be made then shipped.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Friday, the living room window was replaced. Saturday, Mom flashed it. Dad put chicken wire around both the front windows so he can stucco them later. That took up just about most of the day. Cutting and stuffing it around the window is a slow, slow process. Window sills around both windows have been installed and need to be joint compounded and painted.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I got some weeding in the front done. Also, some trim and cabinet door painted. Mom added some sheetrock to the short parts of the bedrooms. In some places, the sheetrock doesn't come down all the way and would leave a gap between the wall and carpet. Since I'm not planning on putting baseboard in them, I definitely want that gap gone. I taped and Mom compounded the additions.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">We're getting there.</div>Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-20924390902112255702011-06-05T20:03:00.000-07:002011-06-05T20:03:41.388-07:00Rain Slowing Us DownFriday morning we switched out my dining room window. It didn't take long to pull out the old one. Putting the new one in was pretty quick as well since we could use the frame that was already there. After lunch, rain was threatening, so we didn't do the living room one since it's exposed. The dining room window is under an overhang, so it's protected. Instead of getting that one in a precarious, leaky situation, I put the flashing around the window. Stucco will come at some point in the future. Mom and Dad worked on repairing some door moulding.<br />
<br />
Saturday morning we went to a carpet store to see if they had something I liked at a reasonable price. They did! Floorman is coming out on Friday to measure. That afternoon Mom and I worked on putting some insulation in the dining room wall. When the window was out, Dad could see that there was none there. Mom cut an opening just under the window wide enough for me to wiggle the insulation through.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwkHy69wsq-XAQVlAjsBY6M8PPalSTAwTzm1hoNKj1dBFvauwA8iU_kf-BPv3emLHZr7gOlHE7z8GC7XupmtvycCSHtQ55KQlVv2dWDv3zRsx3NVC52pKBMZrgbdrQE3iDg81PsfN1V9s/s1600/DSCN4179.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwkHy69wsq-XAQVlAjsBY6M8PPalSTAwTzm1hoNKj1dBFvauwA8iU_kf-BPv3emLHZr7gOlHE7z8GC7XupmtvycCSHtQ55KQlVv2dWDv3zRsx3NVC52pKBMZrgbdrQE3iDg81PsfN1V9s/s320/DSCN4179.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

Dad worked on door moulding and transition strips between the hall and bedrooms. <br />
<br />
Sunday, Dad finished installing door moulding and put up the floor moulding in the hall. That had been on hold until the door moulding was done. I got the ceiling trim for the master bedroom denailed, cleaned up, and painted. Mom patched up the hole from Saturday under the window.<br />
<br />
We're getting there on the house. There should be an open house sometime this summer. Here's the still to do list (created Sunday afternoon):<br />

<br />
Mom and Dad decided to keep working on my house. They textured, primed, and painted the back two bedrooms.<br />

Things that got accomplished:<br />
<br />
Dad installed attic vents in the front and back of the house:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYafiu9nm4axh9X3_sNlbs1dB83xIQOxoiPCuB6LmzB1LHMxKA64ipiT8rI8EKkAfu3l0W_BOVZ-x8scS00ELBhWY3RR6R-9kBv9db-ISNAFg_cHY7T97Dr16B3s5jurYIYkLLVeMXi28/s1600/DSCN4103.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYafiu9nm4axh9X3_sNlbs1dB83xIQOxoiPCuB6LmzB1LHMxKA64ipiT8rI8EKkAfu3l0W_BOVZ-x8scS00ELBhWY3RR6R-9kBv9db-ISNAFg_cHY7T97Dr16B3s5jurYIYkLLVeMXi28/s320/DSCN4103.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
(back vent photo coming in the future - I forgot to take one in time for this post.)<br />
<br />
The vents will allow me to run my whole house fan. It's much more powerful than it needs to be, but was the smallest one we could easily find. It empties 3200 cubic feet in a minute. My house is 7200. It'll be cooled down in a jiffy!<br />
<br />
We all worked at various times at getting the lamps installed in the two bedrooms. Mom cleaned them, I covered chipped spots, Dad installed them, Mom attached fan blades, I attached sconces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3ZPQvp51OjVif09oSsfkpFMeYc9E0BlG-zZoDk1v6HFzgEVHlOMTSMNvXw6Gyc6oTMeoJ9Y-vrtXp3uQ3ox7rETCHNvEXjq-UN1KCo4Wi5qgTLmz7eH5QTmnsAhxuvYhwDGKRv3PnaAI/s1600/DSCN4114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3ZPQvp51OjVif09oSsfkpFMeYc9E0BlG-zZoDk1v6HFzgEVHlOMTSMNvXw6Gyc6oTMeoJ9Y-vrtXp3uQ3ox7rETCHNvEXjq-UN1KCo4Wi5qgTLmz7eH5QTmnsAhxuvYhwDGKRv3PnaAI/s320/DSCN4114.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Master bedroom<br />

<br />
Mom also spent quite a bit of time with joint compound, getting everything all smoothed out in the guest room. We'll be able to start texturing it next time.<br />
<br />
I worked on painting interior doors. I got 4 out of 5 mostly done. They each need one side painted still (logistically, you can only paint one side at a time). I ran out of time to do the fifth one, so, next time.Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-72127744889245362362011-05-15T18:31:00.001-07:002011-05-15T18:31:04.624-07:00While I Was Playing a Soccer Tournament...My amazingly awesome parents were doing more work on the house. The master and guest rooms now have electricity running to the ceiling, waiting to be connected to the lights currently in boxes in the shed. They even got the holes in the walls patched up. Did you think I meant the house? Good heavens, no. Still a while yet before we get there. No. Mom finished cleaning the ceiling! Yay!<br />
<br />
Dad finished the stucco around three of the windows. I put installed wallboard around the two window sills in the guest room and did some joint compounding in the master. Slowly, we're getting there.Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-79694719999615554142011-05-09T08:05:00.000-07:002011-05-09T08:05:34.763-07:00Mother's Day WeekendWe worked only Friday and Saturday, as Sunday was Mother's Day.<br />
<br />
Dad spent the weekend stuccoing around the newly installed windows. First he had to lay wire. Then mix and apply stucco. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8JU_48JGXs0zLmtYHKE2LNofEsWboOa8xMDPLksuIH0sDvY0b08P6huBKG9EB0c4IbNhHYSWoGSDKa6HGnxUgDq8-UxJtjNOookyaMV-2qSlICd4JDPFdu10v_eiOBKWba-HYuF7X2tM/s1600/DSCN3994.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8JU_48JGXs0zLmtYHKE2LNofEsWboOa8xMDPLksuIH0sDvY0b08P6huBKG9EB0c4IbNhHYSWoGSDKa6HGnxUgDq8-UxJtjNOookyaMV-2qSlICd4JDPFdu10v_eiOBKWba-HYuF7X2tM/s320/DSCN3994.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Laying the wire around the windows took considerably longer than he thought it would. In the two days, he got the first layer done on all four windows. They have X's in them to help them bond to the top coat when it gets applied.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjki4uDcAmUCPfpzsP7oJ25-F_KG0ToAoiJ0ubqPAB8xPxWCrpi13EVEbXg3KWDsk2_oDU9sToKbyADlHHzY1ggc1MY69RcQeG5ThQcs1UJQvxWXSc88BPIrNe2ULgVDT-TDskBgp31wcg/s1600/DSCN3993.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjki4uDcAmUCPfpzsP7oJ25-F_KG0ToAoiJ0ubqPAB8xPxWCrpi13EVEbXg3KWDsk2_oDU9sToKbyADlHHzY1ggc1MY69RcQeG5ThQcs1UJQvxWXSc88BPIrNe2ULgVDT-TDskBgp31wcg/s320/DSCN3993.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Mom spent a good part of Friday putting up double closet in the master bedroom. She planned on finishing it quickly, but it had other plans. She got it finished, eventually, but then didn't have as much time to clean ceiling as she thought. The guest bedroom (by far the cleanest of the house) still has a bit to go, but then she'll be done with that task forever!<br />
<br />
I did a variety of things over the two days. I applied quite a bit of joint compound, trying to smooth out walls and joints before we texture. I also put spray foam around the guest room windows and filled in some ceiling cracks from outside the house (if you look at the roof-line in the first picture, you can just make out some yellow foam). I also marked where the light/fans are going to be installed in the two bedrooms and drilled the holes for them. I then went a hunt to find wire to connect them to circuits. I found one piece right away, but another longer enough wasn't appearing so it was beginning to look like I would have to buy some. Then, I looked around the shed some more and saw a nice long piece that was still connecting two outlets even though the shed no longer has electricity. Disconnecting it from the two outlets took quite a while (and some wrenching of my already hurt and braced wrist). <br />
<br />
Sunday, we hiked to waterfalls in honor of Mother's Day. I love you, Mom!Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-7978748105784228942011-05-02T08:31:00.000-07:002011-05-02T08:31:25.076-07:00End of the WeekendNot much picture worthy on Sunday. I oiled the countertops and did some joint compounding on the walls of the guest room. Mom finished cleaning the ceiling of the master bedroom. Dad put up some wire around a window to do stucco - but ran out and will have to finish the job next weekend. He also cut and installed moulding around the inside of the bathroom door. It definitely needs to be painted - it's all old and beat up looking. Will be great when it's got some paint on it though.Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-35223053984427888492011-05-01T09:10:00.000-07:002011-05-01T09:10:25.633-07:00WallboardDad was gone for the day for a show for his ceramics class.<br />
<br />
Mom and I picked up where we left off on Friday. We got the rest of the wall board up in the guest room. We then got the joints taped and applied compound.<br />
<br />
In the afternoon, Mom fixed a hole in the wall. When she did, she could look under my bathtub.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihuNMs74j7z6sET-G4kAklY8fLoPe8sCaencQb-vNMaGHlg3zuf48aqNUB3x8YQ0mW-ezd0m2MuRho_3i4c3F9hkWNowo1rgu2MVprUrIrOVZN7cJcCdNcNncHWCH94-48HTlkqshAXbc/s1600/DSCN3952.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihuNMs74j7z6sET-G4kAklY8fLoPe8sCaencQb-vNMaGHlg3zuf48aqNUB3x8YQ0mW-ezd0m2MuRho_3i4c3F9hkWNowo1rgu2MVprUrIrOVZN7cJcCdNcNncHWCH94-48HTlkqshAXbc/s320/DSCN3952.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
It seems kind of funny that there isn't wall board on the bathroom side of the wall at tub level.<br />
<br />
I put corner tape on the window sills of the master bedroom windows. The 'tape' is paper with sheet metal strips in the center. You cut it to length and then fold the angle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlQoIjideHt2SLoxUFioReKFFd92ziFke3g-2qKUoGpKRfaXtcMve0VyWdsT7f3ekiBWStZ1t_glrWPRrp4qvTzf2OJDpCWVKJA_tj0IKzzG6nnEsVMjNLL3H499LmSXYADYGKC4PyUnY/s1600/DSCN3949.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlQoIjideHt2SLoxUFioReKFFd92ziFke3g-2qKUoGpKRfaXtcMve0VyWdsT7f3ekiBWStZ1t_glrWPRrp4qvTzf2OJDpCWVKJA_tj0IKzzG6nnEsVMjNLL3H499LmSXYADYGKC4PyUnY/s320/DSCN3949.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Then you put up a thin layer of joint compound on the sides getting the tape. You put it in place ad scrape away the extra compound.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrz85phYFslIp9SoqIfzzwsieE7e0jpkbbn6QW2JRJNzjStOoIWxFJw_YSN6b8g48RBj5iDlrupJvMECLTFWmelSUS3SYeB8jsdIncYmUpMTd97dYZ5txLtXb7tQ6vNynWSGvh4yfOedA/s1600/DSCN3951.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrz85phYFslIp9SoqIfzzwsieE7e0jpkbbn6QW2JRJNzjStOoIWxFJw_YSN6b8g48RBj5iDlrupJvMECLTFWmelSUS3SYeB8jsdIncYmUpMTd97dYZ5txLtXb7tQ6vNynWSGvh4yfOedA/s320/DSCN3951.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
After it dries, you put a second layer of compound over the top (that will be for Sunday). They make really nice clean, straight corners.Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975116801339349318.post-18388630143477127092011-04-30T09:04:00.000-07:002011-04-30T09:04:54.599-07:00More of the SameWe started Friday morning by doing some clean up work from last weekend. We had to vacuum up all the sheetrock mess so that it wouldn't be in the way when we put up the plywood and new sheetrock. This wall, like the other back bedroom wall, had it's diagonal bracing cut, so we had to install plywood to increase its shear strength. After cleaning up, Mom and I put the insulation back in the wall. Then, Dad and I got to work measuring, cutting, and installing the plywood.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgysw0wRDIo0Qmuse8usStPIOxXZckmbIEWd9eJU4BKP6pexISW0VcGY5SqC_jx1dM8Rhjq7QJEWWmYSy17EVqkxReD8uEUOmpz-wZt9UUHYZBpGiNaWBgvIzxrbF7v1-YWLZLTVwRH18A/s1600/DSCN3944.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgysw0wRDIo0Qmuse8usStPIOxXZckmbIEWd9eJU4BKP6pexISW0VcGY5SqC_jx1dM8Rhjq7QJEWWmYSy17EVqkxReD8uEUOmpz-wZt9UUHYZBpGiNaWBgvIzxrbF7v1-YWLZLTVwRH18A/s320/DSCN3944.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
I wasn't terribly helpful with the installation aspect as my wrist still seems to be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. I could, however, cut and measure.<br />
<br />
During this time, Mom got started back on her favorite task - washing ceiling! This time in the master bedroom. She was quite excited.<br />
<br />
After Dad and I got the plywood up, we started on the dry wall. We got most of that up and I was able to be more helpful with it as we attached it with a combination of nails (Dad) and screws (me).<br />
<br />

My wrist appears to be suffering from carpal tunnel and there were many things I could not do.<br />
<br />
Friday we worked on interior doors. I got the doors ridiculously cheaply - only $10 each. Some of the hinges needed to be moved, but we managed that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYW4wG_3xAknq5IxC9Lx_08iLVxsyKtrLivmtgRYmjSXf70FYc3ZJk8A_2F1p1dk8rA2q-Yv2YCRXJ6HYe3y9g4r5TlqkQWf9XAwTYIs_UCuWFzOKRPPrmcnwSvlbACzcrwwKn51Iy87U/s1600/DSCN3907.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYW4wG_3xAknq5IxC9Lx_08iLVxsyKtrLivmtgRYmjSXf70FYc3ZJk8A_2F1p1dk8rA2q-Yv2YCRXJ6HYe3y9g4r5TlqkQWf9XAwTYIs_UCuWFzOKRPPrmcnwSvlbACzcrwwKn51Iy87U/s320/DSCN3907.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
We got them all hung. Now, they just need to be painted and have their moulding (painted this weekend) installed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcO7vyEqqfZQQzTms-NqzLoRzBpwRxBjNK8ZjBZs8xavjFXnkkfwQobq7CCt4_lFY-bKkU_EzFiFFYp0JaIwLC4vTYy4WBcfGyudZFpjwbe9GQUHXmW-YSCGw-EUUrtk37Kxgye6AxDQk/s1600/DSCN3909.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcO7vyEqqfZQQzTms-NqzLoRzBpwRxBjNK8ZjBZs8xavjFXnkkfwQobq7CCt4_lFY-bKkU_EzFiFFYp0JaIwLC4vTYy4WBcfGyudZFpjwbe9GQUHXmW-YSCGw-EUUrtk37Kxgye6AxDQk/s320/DSCN3909.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Mom and I (mostly Mom) worked on the moulding throughout the weekend. Some of it started out in bad shape:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7j87KIoD7yE5hTL_rwwMKsQT742SLpsLETduylsoHEkti5qNbJFFhR87yRPkxJaiLE4QmCNQftbskeOTNGhOtYsH_TPQ5hAQSfnTvDCdRYm-4usYLI0joI2DtLVhRUFNezyrT-JHoNXI/s1600/DSCN3917.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7j87KIoD7yE5hTL_rwwMKsQT742SLpsLETduylsoHEkti5qNbJFFhR87yRPkxJaiLE4QmCNQftbskeOTNGhOtYsH_TPQ5hAQSfnTvDCdRYm-4usYLI0joI2DtLVhRUFNezyrT-JHoNXI/s320/DSCN3917.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Looks like a dog was let loose on it. The spaces got filled in with joint compound. Then sanded and painted twice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdCVwHH1ztfO-Xlko9I2bq331WcepAAa3-DuEn_dewIUCaEgI4A3tY2TSfWcQwlw3Rwdd4yN_9cP3mEaydSiYcMD78ozH8XoLPJrV76Jh6UCItnqJEa5R7hYGpXTm6GoM_Envp8RmnW3g/s1600/DSCN3919.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdCVwHH1ztfO-Xlko9I2bq331WcepAAa3-DuEn_dewIUCaEgI4A3tY2TSfWcQwlw3Rwdd4yN_9cP3mEaydSiYcMD78ozH8XoLPJrV76Jh6UCItnqJEa5R7hYGpXTm6GoM_Envp8RmnW3g/s320/DSCN3919.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Saturday and Sunday were spent dealing with the windows in the guest room. Saturday we removed sheet rock, took stock of what needed doing, and bought needed supplies.<br />
<br />
Sunday was the day of major activity. We removed the two windows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_wuCRF3T70w-Eyklee-pisG3QPNzhyHNf7aVtp8JM5a59fuu1XJ-InYrYYu0KvM8QltafnXrP9El7pZpoeziJ4mMd63jfBDMarTgZssc5Z77bw7f0QZA1ZqckJasSY2-OvJ_G4cf4ij8/s1600/DSCN3920.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_wuCRF3T70w-Eyklee-pisG3QPNzhyHNf7aVtp8JM5a59fuu1XJ-InYrYYu0KvM8QltafnXrP9El7pZpoeziJ4mMd63jfBDMarTgZssc5Z77bw7f0QZA1ZqckJasSY2-OvJ_G4cf4ij8/s320/DSCN3920.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Once they were removed, we had plenty to do. The one on the right needed a larger opening, so Dad worked on that. Mom and I made the frame for the one on the left. When the frame was installed we put on the first layer of flashing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhul3L8zq9vWgSyntmHylkybBZuVNTHJNMKBswNwTZYEzawA8fNs5c1fHiy4SzCKqTfZk28RE7AdasZ4dNeTGyp2TD6NEQwKn4iHXyRBANAiGR8Dz3e_N1S0fgbJGCzVucDctzTjCZ7nVY/s1600/DSCN3921.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhul3L8zq9vWgSyntmHylkybBZuVNTHJNMKBswNwTZYEzawA8fNs5c1fHiy4SzCKqTfZk28RE7AdasZ4dNeTGyp2TD6NEQwKn4iHXyRBANAiGR8Dz3e_N1S0fgbJGCzVucDctzTjCZ7nVY/s320/DSCN3921.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Then we were able to install the window itself, complete with the tedious task of shimming.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkvNaYrPSxNBvV9a3Vf4yDkoATCyM6UlCFWn7IGf7_9wodOLh-7jPmssLDioq36OacZncW5uW5V8C5Vz22fAp0SmMtyotINd6XDiATCH6S3z9OUXrHa8zF6OvVBsAo1ZBl0Rb1tP7yB6Q/s1600/DSCN3923.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkvNaYrPSxNBvV9a3Vf4yDkoATCyM6UlCFWn7IGf7_9wodOLh-7jPmssLDioq36OacZncW5uW5V8C5Vz22fAp0SmMtyotINd6XDiATCH6S3z9OUXrHa8zF6OvVBsAo1ZBl0Rb1tP7yB6Q/s320/DSCN3923.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then the exterior flashing was put in place. The second window happened during this time, too. <br />

Best moment of the weekend: Mom had been working on painting moulding, but said she was ready to help with windows whenever needed. We knew we needed to work efficiently in order to get two replaced in one day. After a morning tea break, Mom yelled down the hall to Dad, "Let me know when you're ready to use me in the bedroom!" Dad then came back and grabbed a bottle off the table, saying, "Let me get this ultra hard, all day hold." Too hilarious. (Bottle was hair gel which we had been joking about earlier.)Silkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856102989054962721noreply@blogger.com0
